What Is Drop On Demand Printing?

Drop on Demand (DOD) is an inkjet printing method where ink droplets are ejected only when needed, unlike Continuous Inkjet where a constant stream is produced.

Types of DOD Printers

  • Thermal DOD: Uses heat to push ink droplets through nozzles.
  • Piezoelectric DOD: Uses piezoelectric crystals to create pressure and eject droplets.

Advantages of DOD

  • Lower ink consumption
  • Sharper, higher-quality prints
  • Precise control over droplet placement
  • Ideal for large characters or barcodes on cartons

DOD printers are commonly used in packaging, shipping, and product labeling industries.
